Friday 19th December (2008)
So many ideas brewed up from the past 4 months...just got to get them down now. Halleluliah is a brilliant song - it should be sung. I'm working on my song without words for radio 3 - Toby Litt suggested I wrote for zombie and piano but I can't take that risk - what if there are no zombies around when it comes to making the recording?
Tuesday 27th November
I saw Parade at the Donmar - an incredible piece of music theatre. I'm not so keen on 'musical' voices though - there is something quite plastic about them. My orchestral piece went well at the Barbican a few weeks ago there are a couple of reviews on my site. I seem to have upset a lot of people with my organ piece "Trans" - my intention was to create a lovely meditative piece but all it has created so far is anger - there are a few pedal notes which would require 4 feet - I really am sorry.
Tuesday 9th October
C3 have just decided on our line-up for next year. Percussion, Kit, Bass Guitar and two horns.
Friday 5th October
I'm just wondering if it is possible to have the same charm and beauty of a half finished painting or a beaten up old car in a piece of music without it seeming contrite.......
Wednesday 3rd October
Having been away afew weeks in the French mountains I'm finishing the final version of Plinth before it is performed in the Barbican. It is a concert where the audience have no idea it is coming so it should be interesting. My mind is also ticking over a piece for chamber orchestra which is going to take its inspiration from the Satyajit Ray film 'Abhijan'.
Tuesday 29th August
I've found a solution for my orchestral piece - a way of working, I hope, without compromising on what I want to say.
Saturday 27th August
I invested in the albumn, Let it rain. I am yours is the best song by far. I'm not sure I see the point of orchestral pieces by the likes of me. I can't compete with Sibelius and Beethoven. The thought of it depresses me.
Saturday 18th August
I've never written a blog I thought it might be fun now I can't think of anything to say. I discovered 'I am yours' by tracy chapman today which is rather amazing as a song. I hope I don't kill this one by listening on repeat.
